Approval
The approval of plants is carried out by competent authority of Portugal, Veterinary General Directorate (DGV), after verifying compliance with the requirements laid down in Regulation (EC) n.º 852/2004 of 29 April 2004, Annexes II and III of Regulation (EC) n.º 853/2004 of 29 April 2004 and other legislation applied to foodstuffs.
The approval is the recognition of the sanitary conditions established by community and national rules. Establishments handling products of animal origin for which hygiene conditions are laid down in Regulation (EC) n.º 853/2004 cannot operate unless DGV has approved them. The approval number is called Veterinary Control Number (Número de Controlo Veterinário - NCV).
