The occurrence of Avian Flu in some countries outside the European Union (EU), led to the adoption by Decision 2007/25/EC of strict conditions for the entry into the EU of pet birds, which remain to this date
What are Pet Birds?
Pet birds are birds that travel with their owners or another person on their behalf, up to a number of five and are not intended for sale or transferred to another owner.

Or A quarantinefor 30 days after entering the Member State of destination on premises approved in accordance with Article 6 of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 139/2013. In Portugal, this quarantine may only take place in Jardim Zoológico e de Aclimação em Portugal, S.A., Phone: 21 723 29 33, Fax: 21 723 29 55. All costs thereof are charged to the owner or other person on his behalf.
Or Within the last 6 months and no later than 60 days before the trip, were vaccinated, and at least on one occasion revaccinated, against avian influenza of H5 and H7 subtypes, using vaccine(s) approved for the species concerned in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Or An isolation,under supervision of the official authority of the country of origin, for at least 10 days before the trip and undergone a test to detect the avian influenza H5 and H7 antigen or genome as laid down in Chapter on avian influenza of the Manual of Diagnostic Tests and Vaccines for Terrestrial Animals carried out on a sample taken not earlier than the third day of isolation.
4. The issue of an official health certificate, by the official authority of the country of origin, corresponding to the model set out in community legislation (see model on Annex II of Decision 2007/25/EC), issued by the official competent authority of the country of origin.
5. The transport after arrival to a household or another residence and they must not participate in shows, fairs, exhibitions or other gatherings of birds during the period of 30 days (the exception are the birds destined to an approved facility for quarantine above referred).
ATTENTION Animals are checked in places called Travellers’ Points of Entry (e.g. Airports). You must send certain documentation to these entry points. Here's how to do it.
IT CAN NOT BE ANALYZED IN DUE TIME DOCUMENTATION SENT TO OTHER ADDRESSES. AVOID DIFFICUTIES TO THE ENTRY OF YOUR ANIMALS
Being concerned protection measures in respect of avian flu, failure to comply with these rules, impose in the first place the return of the animal to the origin. As a last resort, to put the animal down is an option. All expenses arising from these situations are charged to the keeper of the animal.
PENALTIES ARE FORESEEN FOR TRAVELLERS WHOSE ANIMALS FAIL TO MEET ONE OR MORE OF THE REQUIREMENTS PROVIDED FOR IN THE LEGISLATION IN FORCE.
Are due the following Payments by Veterinary Expert Examination that is carried out at Travellers’ Points of Entry when the check of the animals: one animal 40,00 € two or more animals 80,00 €
