Animals are checked in places called Travellers’ Points of Entry (e.g. Airports).
For this purpose it is compulsory to contact those, made by the owner/authorized person on behalf of the owner and not by the air company, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (at least 48 hours before the arrival), in order to avoid any inconvenient, namely the prohibition of the entry of the animals due to non-compliance with the health rules laid down - See form for this purpose and the contacts of the Travellers’ Points of Entry

Being concerned protection measures in respect of rabies, failure to comply with these rules, impose in the first place the return of the animal to the origin. As a last resort, to put the animal down is an option.
All expenses arising from these situations are charged to the keeper of the animal.

PENALTIES ARE FORESEEN FOR TRAVELLERS WHOSE ANIMALS FAIL TO MEET ONE OR MORE OF THE REQUIREMENTS PROVIDED FOR IN THE LEGISLATION IN FORCE.

PET ANIMALS HERE MENTIONED ARE THOSE TRAVELLING WITH THEIR OWNERS UP TO  A NUMBER OF 5 AND NOT INTENDED FOR SALE OR TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER OWNER. IF YOUR ANIMAL TRAVELS ALONE OR IF YOU TRAVEL WITH MORE THAN 5 ANIMALS, SEE THE APLLICABLE RULES.

Dogs and Cats from Malaysia (Peninsula), and cats coming from Australia are subject to additional special conditions.
See Decision 2006/146/EC

Are due the following Payments by Veterinary Expert Examination that is carried out at Travellers’ Points of Entry when the check of the animals:
one animal 30,00 €
two or more animals 50,00 €

However, to assistance dogs to people with disabilities, the provisions of DGAV Order No. 1463/2012 of November 13th are not applicable, which means that the payment for the act of veterinary control is not required.

ATTENTION

IT IS NOT AUTHORISED THE ENTRY OF YOUNG CATS AND DOGS COMING FROM COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EU (WITH LESS THAN 12 WEEKS OLD OR BETWEEN 12 AND 16 WEEKS OLD AND WITH AN ANTI-RABIES VACCINATION LESS THAN 21 DAYS).

THE ENTRY OF PET ANIMALS INTO MARINAS/RECREATIONAL PORTS THAT ARE NOT TRAVELLERS' POINTS OF ENTRY IS NOT ALSO ALLOWED AND, FOR THAT REASON, THE ANIMALS CANNOT LEAVE THE BOAT. ALTERNATIVELY AND BY SEA, THEY CAN MOVE TO A TRAVELLERS' POINT OF ENTRY AND BE SUBMITTED THERE TO THE APPLICABLE CHECKS.
